Glastonbury Volunteer. Have you missed out on getting a Glastonbury Ticket? Do not despair. There are plenty of charities and organisations that need volunteers at Glastonbury Festival.
In exchange for your hard work and skills, you receive a Glastonbury Ticket, a special area to camp (with hot showers and clean toilets!) and other benefits like free meals. It is a great way to attend the festival and you will save a lot of money. The charities will ask you for a deposit which you get back once you have completed your work.
The hours you volunteer are different for each charity but you would typically volunteer for 8 hours in 3 shifts over 5 days. For the rest of your time, you can do what you like. I know many people who have volunteered at the festival and they have loved it. Some people volunteer for the same charity year after year.
Here is a list of charities and organisations that are looking for volunteers at Glastonbury Festival.
Greenpeace
Greenpeace is one of the main charities at Glastonbury (along with Oxfam and Wateraid). They also have their own area at the festival. The Greenpeace Field is always full of cool installations, tasty vegetarian food and up and coming bands.
In 2019 I was chatting to a Greenpeace volunteer and she said that 75% of new sign-ups to Greenpeace happen at Glastonbury! That is an incredible statistic and it shows how important the festival is for these charities.
Volunteering Roles for Greenpeace at Glastonbury:
- Stewards
- Shower Crew
- Helping in the Greenpeace Field
You will be required to work 7-hour shifts over 5 days. In return, you will get entry to Glastonbury for free, private crew camping, hot showers, subsidised travel up to £30 and vegetarian and vegan meals.

WaterAid (2024 update)
WaterAid has been a feature at Glastonbury for years. Since the plastic bottle ban has come into force their presence can be seen all over the festival. I must admit when Emily Eavis announced the ban I admired the sentiment but worried about how it would work with 250,000 people.
2019 was a hot Glastonbury. We all needed lots of water. The WaterAid crew were absolutely brilliant. We all queued with our water bottles to get refills and the crew always had a smile even though they were rushed off their legs.
Applications for volunteering will open at the very end of January and will be live until mid Feb.
Volunteering Roles for WaterAid at Glastonbury:
- The Refill Station Team
- The WaterAid stand team
- Water Welcomers
- Loo Crew
- Litter Picking
- Female Urinals
You will be required to work 4 x 6-hour shifts and sometimes at night. In return, you will get entry to Glastonbury for free, £35 travel costs, private crew camping with hot showers and food vouchers.
A few things to note, for Glastonbury:
1. A large number of their roles are toilet cleaning roles
2. They will need you to be available from Tuesday (arriving with them no later than 4pm) until midday on Monday.
3. They look for people who are passionate about WaterAid and priority is given to people who have done 2 festivals last year with them, or 5 in the last 5.
Details of other festivals will be available in January too.

Oxfam (2024 update)
The last of the big main charities. Oxfam has been a part of Glastonbury for over 30 years. Oxfam normally requires a couple of thousand volunteers at Glastonbury. Priority is given to previous volunteers but they are always looking for new volunteers too.
Volunteering Roles for Oxfam at Glastonbury:
- Stewarding
- Campaigning (after a telephone interview)
- Festival Shop Work ( normally only open to previous festival shop volunteers, or Oxfam high-street shop volunteers or staff.)
A quick reminder of the key dates:
> Stewarding: 1st Feb
> Campaigners and shops: 8th Feb
If you are a steward volunteer you will be required to work 3 x 8-hour-long shifts over a period of 5 days. You can ask to work the same shifts as your friends and family which is a nice touch.
If you are a campaigner volunteer you will be asked to work between 4 x 6-hour shifts which end by 18:00, giving you the night to yourselves.
The shop volunteers do 1 shift a day.
In return, you will gain entry to the festival for free. Your own private campsite with showers, toilets and phone charging. You will get a meal voucher for every shift you have worked and free tea and coffee.

Avalon Bars & Events
Glastonbury Volunteering 2024. For 2024 Avalon Bars and Events will be back onsite at Glastonbury running their bars. They are excited to let you all know that this year they will be recruiting volunteers for Glastonbury Festival themselves!
This new chapter is an opportunity for them to evaluate the volunteer process and how they can make the experience even better for you. By taking the volunteer recruitment process in-house they will be able to give you a great experience, while continuing to support new and existing charities with their work.
For those returning volunteers and first timer’s alike you can register your interest with them.
Who can volunteer?
You must be 18 or older to volunteer. Additionally, you must be available from June 25th to July 1st 2024. If you’re not a UK resident, you must check your eligibility to volunteer in your visa terms.
What is expected of me?
Volunteers are expected to complete the equivalent of three eight-hour shifts (with breaks) between Wednesday and Sunday at the festival. You’ll also be expected to sign their volunteer agreement that outlines their code of conduct while at the festival.
Will I be given training?
There will be a virtual training session ahead of the festival as well as onsite training to make sure everyone knows what to do ahead of their shifts.
What will I need to bring?
Volunteers are required to camp on the Avalon campsite, but you’ll need to bring your own tent and camping equipment. Please make sure tents are an appropriate size for your groups, Avalon bars and events reserve the right to take down structures deemed too large. Unfortunately, they are unable to accommodate campervans on their campsite.
What facilities are onsite?
They provide showers, two meal vouchers for every shift you’re scheduled for (vouchers are exclusively for the campsite mess tent), and a couple of T-shirts to wear whilst you’re on shifts. The toilets and showers each have a private individual cubicle and are gender-neutral. There are also free tea and coffee facilities as well as phone charging stations in the mess tent. When you are not on shift, you’re free to enjoy the festival!

Glastonbury Recycling Crew
In an ideal world, there would be no need for recycling volunteers. Glastonbury is becoming more sustainable every year and I have noticed over the years a lot less rubbish. Remember the festival motto: Love the farm, leave no trace.
However, there is a need for a Glastonbury Recycling Crew. If you wish to join the team you will need a recommendation from a previous recycling team member.
Glastonbury Recycling Crew Roles:
- Litter Picking
- Sorting out the recycling
You are required to work 4 x 6-hour shifts. In exchange, you will receive free entry to the festival. Free meals, private camping with showers and toilets.

- Gate Steward

Property Lock-Ups
Property lockups are run by different peace and environmental groups, so if you are a member of such a group, you might wish to check if your local branch is involved.
Other Charities
If you already volunteer for a charity, you may be able to work at the Festival through them. Check out if they are coming to Glastonbury. Similarly, if you are a Samaritan, you could investigate joining their Festival Branch.
Worthy FM
Worthy FM is the onsite radio station of Glastonbury. Sometimes, they look for volunteers for the station. Keep an eye out on their website: http://www.worthyfm.com/
Good luck with your applications. See you down on the farm!
