Castle Cary to Glastonbury. How to get to Glastonbury Festival by train.
If you are planning on attending Glastonbury Festival by train then here is all the information that you need.
What is the nearest train station to Glastonbury?
The best train station to reach the festival is Castle Cary. If you are lucky enough to have a Glastonbury ticket and want to come by train, advance rail tickets normally go on sale in April.
Can I bring a trolley on the train to Glastonbury?
No, most train companies will not allow you to bring a trolley or cart on the train during the festival period. So only bring what you can carry. The walk and queue for Glastonbury Festival can be brutal. Check out my Glastonbury Packing List and only bring the essentials.
How to get from Castle Cary Station to the festival site?
Glastonbury provides free shuttle busses that take you to the Glastonbury Festival site from Castle Cary Train Station.
You must be a Glastonbury ticket holder to use this service. The shuttle operates from Wednesday to Monday (there is no service during the night when trains aren’t running).
A word of warning. All the buses are scheduled to get you to Castle Cary station by the last train. Don’t travel to the station outside these times as you will have to wait in the car park without any facilities.
Can I park my car at Castle Cary station during the festival?
Unfortunately, not. You can not leave your car at the station and attend the festival. There are no left luggage facilities either at Castle Cary station.
Will there be queues?
In a word, yes. The rail companies do put on extra services during the festival, but you are still likely to be in queues.
Remember to give yourself time when leaving Worthy Farm. Gate A will be hectic on Monday morning with lots of people getting buses to various parts of the country, taxi pickups and the shuttle service to Castle Cary station.
Print your train tickets
For those leaving on a Monday make sure you do not arrive too early if you have Saver Tickets or you will be asked to pay the additional fares or may have to travel back to the Festival to wait for the appropriate train.
ETICKETS – If you’re buying an electronic train ticket which you plan to present via your mobile device, please ensure that your device has sufficient charge for you to be able to show the ticket at Castle Cary station on your departure from the Festival. There are no charging facilities at the station. We would recommend bringing a print out of your eticket as a backup.
See you on the farm!
