Shangri La Glastonbury. There are areas at Glastonbury Festival that make any visit to Worthy Farm unique. Block 9, The Stone Circle and The Underground Piano Bar come to mind. Shangri-La is another one.
Shangri-La is starting from scratch. From the look of their poster and bits of information we have received so far, only the Nomad Bar/Club (which made its debut at Glastonbury 2024) has returned. All of the other areas are new.
As the theme over the last few years at Shangri-la was that everything must go, it looked like they really meant it. Here is what they have said so far:
Each year, Shangri-La reveals a new chapter of its
ever-evolving narrative. In 2023 and 2024 it explored the theme Everything Must Go, challenging consumerism, and exploring different currencies, exchanges and values.
Now, everything has gone. This year, Shangri-La is
re-wilding. The field is starting again from the ground up with a renewed focus on growing community and connectedness.
The Wilding is a complete reset. We want to return to the feeling of experiencing collective real life joy, of being present, and discovering something new with wonderment and awe.
Here are the new venues at Shangri-la:
Shangri-La Stage
Luna
Lore
Azaadi

Shangri-La is one of the most radical areas of the festival. You will see messages of all kinds as you wander around it. This area encourages activism and standing up for people and the planet.
Shangri La is located in the furthest corner of the festival. Each year the organisers invite different collaborators to come and work there giving the area a fresh feel.
When did Shangri-La start?

Shangri-la made its debut at Glastonbury in 2009. It kind of took over from Lost Vagueness, the original late-night area of Glastonbury.
What to expect at Shangri La Glastonbury

Even though it is a late-night area, Shangri-La is more than just a rave destination. It is an outdoor art gallery, a political forum, and an immersive playground. I love wandering around it and discovering all the hidden stuff there.
Each year the area has a theme so expect to see the theme messages on the Lineup posters, flags and stages.

What day does Shangri-la open?

In past years, Shangri-La has opened on Thursday. We have seen some amazing acts down there over the years so make sure you head down there. All the main stages are closed on Thursday so it a perfect opportunity for you to go and discover other sides of the festival.
Who is Shangri-La for?
Everyone. This area is totally inclusive and prides itself on that. Check out this video and the Shangri-La YouTube channel to get a flavour of it.
Like all areas of the Southeast Corner (Block 9, The Unfairground, The Common and Shangri-La), the area is closed to children at night. Bring them in the day to see the amazing installations.
