Where is Glastonbury Festival held? A tricky question. Surely, it is held in Glastonbury, Somerset? Nope, it is actually held 9 miles away at Worthy Farm in Pilton. The first festival was actually called The Pilton Pop, Blues and Folk Festival. It was renamed Glastonbury Fayre in 1971.

Worthy Farm has been the home of the Eavis family for over 150 years. The first festival was held there in 1970, attracting 1,500 people. If you are driving to Glastonbury Festival there are a few things to consider before setting off.
First off, make sure you have packed everything! Check out our ultimate Glastonbury packing list before you leave. If you have forgotten something, don’t panic, you can buy most stuff at the festival.
Getting To Glastonbury Festival By Car
The Glastonbury Festival site is huge and because of this, there is no exact postcode you can use to help you get to the site. The organisers recommend the following:
Drivers travelling on the A303 and A37 are advised to use the postcode TA11 7DP.
Drivers from Wales using the A39, or from the North West using the A361 are advised to enter BA6 9XE into their sat-nav, while travellers from Swindon or local traffic on the A361 are advised to use BA4 4LY.
Once you get close to the site you will start to see Glastonbury Festival signs which always get us excited! Don’t forget to tune into Worthy FM (87.7) on your radio too, to get you even more in the mood and traffic information.
If you are driving your car to the festival then don’t forget that you will need to purchase a Car Park sticker (which cost £65 in 2024).
Parking At Glastonbury Festival

Another thing to do before you set off is to decide where you are going to camp at Glastonbury. If you have not decided yet, check out our Guide on where to camp at Glastonbury. It covers every campsite at Glastonbury Festival and the closest car park to each area.
It is advised that you plan ahead of time to make sure you are arriving on the right side of where your car park is (East or West), to avoid longer queuing times. We normally arrive the night before and stay in nearby accommodation.
The car parks open from 21.00 on Tuesday , so that drivers are able to arrive at night when there is less traffic, but the gates to the festival won’t open until 8.00 on Wednesday. Remember where you parked! In 2019, Karen forgot her mobile in our car and when we went back to get it, we couldn’t find our bloody car!
There will be a separate post on how to get to Glastonbury by public transport. Now you know that Glastonbury Festival isn’t actually in Glastonbury. This just adds to the madness that is Glastonbury Festival!
