Leftfield Glastonbury. The Left Field Stage first appeared at Glastonbury Festival in 2000. It is the stage that mixes music with politics with discussions and comedy thrown in too. Billy Bragg and Juliet Wills are the curators. It is one of the stages that make Glastonbury unique.

Left Field Glastonbury Festival
Debates & Talks:

Anybody who says politics and music shouldn’t mix clearly hasn’t listened to the countless protest songs written over the last 100 years. Glastonbury has always been connected with politics and protest. CND sponsored the event for quite a few years in the 80’s and Michael Eavis tried to enter parliament as a Labour MP.
There are a few places around the festival that have talks and debates. The Leftfield is probably the largest and most popular one. The debates start in the morning and finish around 16:00. Then the music begins.
The Left Field Lineup

The Leftfield always has an eclectic lineup. There will be musicians from all over the world playing different types of music. One of the constant threads between them all is their political or protest output.
I always try to attend at least one talk during the festival. Normally on a Thursday morning. Even if it is on a subject matter I know nothing about. Glastonbury is all about learning and embracing new things.
Here are some of the artists that have played The Leftfield Glastonbury:
- British Sea Power
- Billy Bragg
- Kae Tempest
- Enter Shikari
- Buzzcocks
- Tom Robinson
- The Selecter
- Alison Moyet
- Beans on Toast
- Declan McKenna
- KT Tunstall
- Fontaines DC
- Yard Act
- Billy Nomates
- The Magic Numbers
- Lottery Winners
- English Teacher
- Bob Vylan
- The Farm

I always recommend to people to try a little bit of everything at Glastonbury. Especially if it is your first one. Somebody coined the term Glastonbury Tapas and I like it. I know it is very tempting to sit in front of The Pyramid Stage all day and watch act after act. However, the magic of Glastonbury is the sheer size and diversity of the festival. When you add to your Glastonbury tapas plate make sure you add a bit of Left Field.
See you on the farm.
